Filmmaking

How I started film making

“I’ve been intrigued by filmmaking since I was a little kid. Not quite like my father, who mentioned his youth paralleling the movie “Cinema Paradiso”, but passionately identical in magnetism. He eventually became a working actor after I popped out into the world. Where I became influenced by film on a regular basis, partly to my exposure of experiences in front of and behind the scenes on sets, or doing some bit work myself as a youngster. Once starring in a lead role on a National commercial for McDonalds at the age of 7. I got that role going with a friend on casting call, they just happened to pick me from the waiting room waiting for him.

Regardless, one could say film, photography, animation, writing, filmmaking as an art form in general had captivated my attention early on. I always loved ‘story’, especially good stories. Reading books and comic books young gave me inspiration to write myself and storyboard undeveloped ideas and experiences. Living it and learning to loosely document that eventually. Along with the imagination that I needed to explore these uncharted skill sets of telling tales. Already being a consistent young artist in practice with paints, pens, etc. this merely became an extension of the expressions looking to develop.
Eventually, I began working with others on productions, as well as, creating my very own independent productions. Spending work money on equipment became a habit and means to excel further with the craft(s) I loved so much. My experience in corporate to independent productions spans some 46 plus years now if I count my younger time. From active duty as an assistant all the way to handling the role of Producer, I find each project invaluable in the sense of knowledge gained through connections made. Whether good or bad, all knowledge gained from experience is priceless.
At the end of the day … when all closure, releases, film festivals, notoriety, etc is said and done, it’s still about sharing good stories. Telling them well by using the acquired skill sets, medium and materials available to do this the best way possible. From the heart.”
